Heating & Insulation Options

Did you know that fabric buildings can be insulated and heated? This is an excellent and economical option if you are looking to expand manufacturing space during the winter, or need to protect sensitive equipment or materials from cold temperatures.

Description

Winterize your Fabric Building this Year

Fabric Liner Options

Two insulation options are available depending on whether you are looking to achieve an internal temperature that’s just enough to take the winter edge off (~0’C) or if you are looking for an insulation package capable of bring the internal temperature to room temperature! Allowing workers to work all year long.

Single Liner Fabric Liner only (no added insulation)

Made of highly durable polyethylene, the same material as the outer cover. Think of it as another layer of material that goes on the inside of the trusses, with dead airspace in between the inner and outer layers. Capable of retaining enough heat to take the winter edge off, customers have stated they have been able to achieve above freezing temperatures, but don’t expect positive double digits. Fire retardant (FR) and non-FR options available.

Double Layer Insulation Liner (with added insulation)

Designed for applications where room temperature is required, this option features double polyethylene sheets with polyester batting fill for improved thermal performance. The system uses fire-retardant fabrics and a simple hook-and-loop fastening method for easy installation. With the proper heating source, customers can achieve and maintain comfortable room temperatures year-round.

Fabric FR specs:
-Outside poly sheets- CAN/ULC – S109-14
-Inside polyester – CAL 117-2013

Heating Options

External Heating

Units such as the Herman Nelson Frost Fighter or other liquid petroleum fuel heaters (with diesel being the most common) are designed to sit outside the structure. They deliver clean, heated air indoors through flexible ducts, making them a reliable option for larger spaces.

Internal Heating

Propane or electrical unit heaters can be installed directly onto the upper trusses inside the building. This setup provides an efficient way to maintain consistent warmth without taking up valuable floor space.

Heated Concrete Pad

If you are already installing a concrete pad, consider integrating radiant floor heating. Flexible PEX tubing is laid within the concrete before it’s poured, circulating heated water or a glycol solution from a boiler, water heater, or heat pump. This system provides steady, efficient heat from the ground up, improving overall comfort.fabric building floor heat system
